Developing
people and
communities.

We look at what a person needs to flourish and build programmes that address all of it, in relationship with each other, over time. This is how whole communities change.

Nenzani?
Building whole communities.

South Africa has a constitution that promises dignity, equality, and access. The gap between that promise and the lived reality of millions of South Africans is real. Nenzani exists in that gap. Not to manage it. To close it.

Our name comes from the Zulu expression that asks: what are you doing? The question mark is deliberate. It is a call to action, a refusal of passivity, and an invitation to communities across South Africa to demand and build the futures they deserve.

We are based in Johannesburg and work across all 9 provinces of South Africa, reaching rural communities, townships, and areas of deepest need wherever they are.

1
What we believe
Human flourishing is not divisible. You cannot lift someone from poverty by addressing only one dimension.
2
How we work
We build programmes that address capability, dignity, economic agency, and environmental safety together.
3
Our philosophy
Ubuntu. Whole people. Whole communities. Lasting change that does not need us to sustain it.

What we do.
Six interconnected programmes.

Every programme addresses a different point of failure in the same system. Together they create a web of opportunity that holds communities up. Our Adopt-a-Child programme has its own dedicated section below.

📚

Education Support

Academic support, matric tutoring, NSFAS and university application guidance, and school resource programmes that give children in township schools access to what wealthier schools take for granted.

01
💼

Small Business Development

Practical SME training in townships and rural communities. From idea to income, step by step. Digital skills, mobile entrepreneurship, and business mentorship for people building something from very little.

02

Girls and Women

SRHR workshops, menstrual health education, pad drives, and economic empowerment programmes for girls and women in underserved communities. Because when a girl stays in school, everything changes.

03
👧

Adopt-a-Child

Fund a child's meals, clothing, and transport to a better school. From R549 per month. Every rand goes directly to a verified supplier, never as cash. Orphans and children in child-headed households receive more.

Community Spaces

Clean-ups, park maintenance, sports access, and technology programmes in schools. Every community deserves physical spaces that reflect the worth of the people who live in them.

05
💧

MetsiLoop

Circular water economy programme. Harvest, treat, redeliver, repeat. A hosted programme working toward water security in water-stressed communities through community-led water management systems.

06

Give a child
what the system
never could.

South Africa's Child Support Grant gives R580 per month per child. That money rarely reaches the child. It does not stretch far enough to feed them, clothe them, or get them to a better school. For children in child-headed households and orphans taken in by already stretched families, the situation is even harder.

Nenzani's Adopt-a-Child programme works differently. We never give cash to a household. We pay suppliers directly. Verified food suppliers, clothing providers, and transport operators. The child gets what they need, not what the household can spare.

A fed child learns. A child who arrives at school in clean clothes is a child who stays. A child who can travel to a better school outside their township starts to see a different future for themselves. These are not small things. They are everything.

Orphans and children in need get more

Children taken in by already stretched families and those in child-headed households receive enhanced support. They carry the heaviest burden and receive the most from us.

Hot meals before school and a meal at home: because a hungry child cannot learn
School clothing and essential supplies: dignity matters as much as knowledge
Transport to quality schools outside the township: access to a better education does not have to stop at the township boundary
All funds go directly to verified suppliers: not a cent is given as cash to a household
Adopt a Child

12-Month Commitment

We ask for a one-year commitment so that a child has continuity and stability. Life changes. If your circumstances change, contact us and we will manage the transition carefully so your child is not left without support.

Letters from your child

You will receive letters from the child you support. Real letters showing what your contribution is doing in a real life. Progress reports. Moments of joy. Evidence of change.

Register to Adopt a Child

Our payment system with PayFast is being set up. Register your interest using the form below and we will be in touch with payment details as soon as we are ready to receive your support.

Every programme targets a different
point in the same broken cycle.

When a girl misses school, she falls behind. When results suffer, university becomes impossible. When economic participation is blocked, poverty repeats across generations. We intervene at every point where the cycle can be broken.

What are you doing? A call to action. A challenge to passivity. An invitation to every South African to stop waiting and start building the community they deserve.

We believe in integration
No single programme solves poverty. We address capability, dignity, economic agency, and environment together.
We believe in community
We build with communities, not for them. Lived experience guides everything we design and deliver.
We believe in data
Every programme is measured. Evidence drives decisions. We are accountable to the communities we serve.
We believe in Ubuntu
I am because we are. Our work is grounded in the conviction that community flourishing is inseparable from individual flourishing.

Founded on a simple,
stubborn conviction:
things can change.

South Africa has a constitution that promises dignity, equality, and access to education, healthcare, water, and economic participation. The promise is real. The gap between the promise and lived reality is also real.

Nenzani Africa was founded by a team of committed South Africans and international partners united by one conviction: the way things are is not the way things have to be.

The answer, consistently, is that they address one dimension of a problem that has many. Nenzani? is built differently. We look at what a person needs to flourish and build programmes that address all of it.

We are registered in South Africa. We are based in Johannesburg. We are growing.

Let us build
something together.

Whether you are a community member, a potential partner, a funder, a researcher, or someone who simply wants to know more, we want to hear from you.
